Hannaford Supermarkets earlier this month announced a $400,000 donation for Maine-based programs intended to benefit the health of the state’s children.
The money is part of a total $1.3 million in donations that extend across New England and New York and are part of the company’s 2 1/2-year-old “Eat Well, Be Well – A Path to Better Health” initiative.
In Maine, the money will be equally split between Full Plates Full Potential and Let’s Go! and is directed at programs that encourage Maine children to eat better and be active — reducing their risk for obesity and a host of related chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and some types of cancer.
“It’s essential we provide children with the right tools to develop healthy habits at an early age,” Hannaford President Mike Vail said in a news release. “We’re incredibly proud to support these meaningful programs, which will create positive, lasting impact on the lives of children in our communities. By investing in the next generation today, we’re establishing the foundation for thriving communities tomorrow.”
