FAIRFIELD — A Fairfield man died early Friday after he was struck by a tractor trailer while walking across an Interstate 95 off-ramp, police say.
Police received a 911 call to the Bangor Communications Center just after 3:30 a.m. about a pedestrian struck at mile marker 132 southbound, according to Lt. Aaron Turcotte of the Maine State Police.
Troopers found 49-year-old Mark Michaud had died at the scene.
Turcotte said the truck was driven by Damon Sylvia, 19, of Milford.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash. The scene was analyzed by the state police accident reconstruction team while the commercial motor vehicle unit inspected the tractor trailer.
Exit ramp 132 was briefly closed and reopened not long after 6 a.m.
On Friday, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, which works to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, noted that this is the first pedestrian death of 2025.
“The BCM encourages all road users to exercise caution and be aware of vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and people using mobility devices,” Paul Drinan, active transportation director for the coalition said.
