Libby Library in Old Orchard Beach is always looking for ways to warm our community now that winter is fast approaching. You may want to partake in our ongoing activities like the Creative Fibers Club which meets Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to share your creativity with other knitters. You will need to bring your own supplies.
There’s also our Brown Bag Book Bunch which meets Tuesdays from 11:30 am to 12:30 p.m. This is not your usual book club. It is a great place to discuss your favorite books and share recommendations with other book lovers.
If you are looking to stay warm through physical activity be sure to check out Dancing with Amanda. We are happy to announce that this program, started in October on a trial basis, has been added to our regular activity schedule due to the great response. These half hour classes, inspired by Zumba, Jazzercise and Richard Simmons workouts, are held every Thursday from 5:30 to 6 p.m. in the Library’s Community Room.
We’ll also be continuing our monthly Talk of the Town series. These talks, which are held the fourth Friday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m., feature presentations from community leaders about various topics of importance to local residents. This month’s talk, scheduled for Nov. 22 will feature Kim Howard, executive director of the Old Orchard Beach Chamber of Commerce. She’ll be here to discuss the Chamber’s many events and its purpose.
Speaking of celebrations, this past Friday marked the beginning of Gnomevember here at the Llibrary. A group of incredibly clever gnomes have hidden themselves amongst the shelves and are daring our young, and young at heart, patrons to find them.
The fun continues on STEAM Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10:45 a.m. This month’s theme is the Fibonacci sequence, a fascinating mathematical pattern that can be found throughout nature in things as widely varied as nautilus shells and pine cones. We’ll be learning about, and creating our own Fibonacci sequences through reading and playful activities.
Finally, we would like to remind you that colder weather also brings occasional library closures due to inclement weather. Be sure to check WGME, WCSH or WMTW closings or our Facebook page for library closures during severe weather events. And, be sure to check our website at ooblibrary.org/ to find out more about the varied programs and events on offer here at the library.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
