Police are investigating possible human remains found in Jay on Saturday.
The skeletal remains were found in the area of 24 Elm St., Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss said.
The remains are “possibly human,” but there was no confirmation from the Office of Chief Medical Examiner as of Sunday afternoon, Moss said.
With rumblings that the remains may be those of missing person Kimberly Moreau, Jay police Chief Joe Sage said in an email Sunday that investigators have ruled out that possibility.
Moreau was 17 years old when she disappeared on the evening of May 9, 1986. She was last seen with a person she met earlier that day and Moreau’s family has been searching for her ever since.
