John “Jack” L. Wood
CAPE ELIZABETH – John “Jack” L. Wood, 70, died on Oct. 16, 2024, at his home in Cape Elizabeth.
He was born in 1954 in South Bend, Ind. Growing up, he lived in Kansas City, Mo.; Wayne, Mich.; and Severna Park, Md.
He attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., graduating in 1976. He received his JD degree from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 1979. He remained in Baltimore, Md. until moving to Maine in 2017. During his legal career he worked for the Baltimore State’s Attorney’s office, the Baltimore law firm of Niles, Barton & Wilmer, and the legal office of Baltimore Gas and Electric (now Exelon Corporation).
Following his retirement in 2017, Jack and his wife moved to Cape Elizabeth and up until the month before he died, they were able to enjoy everything that the beautiful state of Maine has to offer: hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and biking. He especially enjoyed his many rounds of golf at Purpoodock Club as well as his summers at the family camp on China Lake. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Church in Cape Elizabeth.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth Byrd Wood; his sons Nicholas Oliver Wood and George Patrick Wood, his two daughters-in-law; two granddaughters; four siblings; and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at St. Bartholomew Church in Cape Elizabeth at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22. A private graveside service will take place at the Baldwin Hill Conservation Burial Ground in Fayette.
Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, One Church St., Augusta.
