We write in support of Crescencia Maurer who is running for Scarborough Town Council. Maurer touts herself as a problem-solver and we can attest to this.
Maurer joined the board of the Friends of Scarborough Marsh a few months before it merged with the Scarborough Land Trust. At the time, no staff was available to help write a big federal grant that they were working on in partnership with the state of Maine and other NGOs. Maurer stepped in and helped get it done in about a month’s time, over the holidays. The grant was successful. Now, $1.4 million in funds is being deployed to design interventions to ensure Scarborough Marsh can weather sea-level rise and to work in concert with the proposed Route 1 redevelopment.
We believe Maurer will roll up her sleeves and help Scarborough. We hope you cast your ballot in her favor.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
