Barbara Ann Black
TUTTLE, Okla. – Barbara Black, 82, of Oklahoma, died peacefully at home on July 6, 2024.
A devoted Christian and member of the Chickasaw tribe, Barbara will be deeply missed.
Born in Ada, Okla., Barbara was loved and raised by her grandparents. She married Robert Black in her early 20s, and they had three children Tana, Randy and Christopher. She moved to Maine in the early ’70s and resided in South Portland for 25 years.
Barbara was a hairdresser most of her life. She started her career at Regis in the Maine Mall, then Making Waves in Scarborough. Barbara loved her hair family and built numerous friendship over the years. In Barbara’s later years she received her master’s degree in social work from University of Southern Maine, and served the elderly community at Community Counseling Center.
Barbara was the matriarch of her family. Her love and devotion to her family was remarkable. She loved sharing and making memories, whether it was during meals or special occasions, family was incredibly important to her.
Barbara loved the beach, she spent many summer days visiting Wassamki Springs with her grandchildren. Her affection for her dogs, Lil Bit and Bandit is also noted, as they both could be found at her side.
Everyone who knew Barbara felt calm and at peace when they were in her presence. The love and acceptance she blessed others with was a testament to her faith in Christ.
Barbara is survived by her partner, Walter Black of Oklahoma;’ her many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Tana Coulombe, her son, Randy Black and son, Christopher Black.
A celebration of life will be held this Saturday Oct. 12, between 1-4 pm., at The Groundfloor, 13 School St., Freeport.
