Saco has launched a new, direct emergency notification system, CodeRED. This powerful tool allows Saco’s public safety officials to quickly send urgent alerts to specific areas or the entire city during emergency situations, according to a city press release.
The Saco Police Department will use CodeRED exclusively for emergencies, such as severe weather events or threats to public safety. Residents are encouraged to sign up for these critical alerts at sacomaine.org/emergencyalerts.
While CodeRED includes a pre-existing telephone database, community members must complete enrollment to ensure their number is included in the system.
“We encourage all businesses and residents to register,” said Saco Police Chief Jack Clements. “We don’t want anyone to assume their number is already included and potentially miss out on important alerts during emergencies.”
Residents, businesses, and visitors can register now at sacomaine.org/emergencyalerts. Registered users will receive emergency communications through their chosen methods, including text messages, email, mobile app notifications, or phone calls. For those without access to a computer, paper registration forms are available at the City Administrator’s Office or the Saco Police Department lobby.
If an emergency occurs, those enrolled will receive alerts by the following senders: phone calls will come from 206-536-3695, text messages will be sent from 24639, and e-mails will be sent from domain @notify.onsolve.net.
If an organization or its members would like to work with the city to increase local registration, reach out to the Saco Communications Department at SacoTV@sacomaine.org to collaborate.
To receive alerts for news, information, and notices about other city matters beyond emergencies, Saco residents and visitors may sign up for the city’s newsletter sent out twice per month at sacomaine.org/newsletter. Residents should still look to this e-mail communication or to the news section of Saco’s website – sacomaine.org/news – for information on non-emergency events like road closures, community gatherings, election information, or construction activity. Also, follow the city on social media at facebook.com/sacomaine, instagram.com/saco.maine, twitter.com/sacomaine, and youtube.com/cityofsacoTV.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
