Lawreston C. “Jerry” Crute
GEORGETOWN – Lawreston C. “Jerry” Crute, 80, died after a brief illness on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, at Maine Medical Center Portland.
Lawreston was born in Cushing, Maine to Kenneth L. Crute and Evelyn C. Browne on Jan. 6, 1944. He graduated from Rockland District High School Class of 1962.
From 1962 to 1964 he attended Leland Powers School of Radio, Television and Theatre earning his diploma in Radio, Television and Theatre. He worked as radio personality Jerry Lemon at WGUY Bangor, Maine for a few years.
From 1977 to March of 2004, he owned and operated Bowdoin Camera Exchange located in Brunswick, Maine for 27 years. From April of 2004 until his passing, he was the owner of Lawreston Distinctive Views. Having the eagle eye for the right photo opportunity gave him the ability to create incredible canvas prints, postcards, posters and more of the unlimited incredible views canvasing Maine. Whether by land or air he captured what he saw and created historic memories for all enjoy and cherish.
He was active in musical theatre in South Portland, Auburn and Lewiston, Bath, Brunswick and Damariscotta. He enjoyed being part of a Choral Society, relatively well known as an actor and singer.
In retirement “Jerry” as known to his friends and coworkers, never let the grass grow under his feet. Having held positions at LL Bean, Lowes, Shaw’s and most recently found a home and work family at Hannaford Brunswick. He was often told he could work circles around the young folks even at his age.
Along with his photography passion he also enjoyed sailing, motorcycle riding and dining out. He may have been a small guy, but he could pack away the food and proudly stated so.
Lawreston is survived by his daughter, Amy W. Buck of Gardiner, Maine; his aunt Ramona Ryckman; as well as many cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday Sept. 28, 2024, at 1 p.m. at at the Broad Cove Church, 87 Pleasant Point Rd., Cushing, ME 04563. Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330.
