Shame on Sen. Collins for endangering our justice system, a very foundation of our democracy. Having followed Mr. Trump’s recent New York criminal trial, it seemed incredibly fair (while Mr. Trump ostensibly acted like a mob boss trying to intimidate witnesses and deflect from salient points.) The defense simply didn’t appear to have one, because they did not have one. Evidence (documents, corroborated witness accounts) backed the prosecution, and a jury of Trumps’ peers all agreed. How dare Collins endanger our democracy?

Sen. Collins’ actions appear similar to people in leadership in a dictatorship I lived under in the Peace Corps, people who chose personal gain over a more democratic society, leading the beautiful country in which I lived to a dismal low, with people I knew personally “disappeared.”

I’m tired of these shenanigans; let’s get the adults back in the room.
