I’m a tourist, visiting from Cape Cod. On an early morning walk, I happened upon the fishermen’s Net Yard down on Portland’s waterfront. I’d worked in the fishing industry 40 years ago. So I take a natural interest.
The Net Yard was a mess. A tragic example of what happens when a special interest group controls a public resource. Send a reporter and take a look. It’s a mess and it is a dry land example of what is happening to our oceans today. It is the same, “Take the cash and leave the trash” mentality that Adam Smith wrote about 400 years ago. Take a look. Human nature on display.
