Judith Kay Bailow
YARMOUTH – Judith Kay Bailow passed away on Oct. 12, 2023 after a brief illness.
She was born on Dec. 23, 1939 in Columbus, Ohio, to Irene Kougher and Gilbert Holcomb. She attended high school in Hilliard, Ohio, and graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1961. She received a fellowship to attend Boston University and graduated from there in 1967 with a Masters in Maternal Child Health Nursing.
On May 7, 1966, she married Robert E. Bailow, Jr. who she met in Boston, Mass. Judith had a career teaching and practicing maternal child health nursing over four decades, primarily at the University of Southern Maine and Maine Medical Center. She loved working with mothers and infants and encouraged her students to think critically.
She was blessed with three children and seven grandchildren and her love for them was very evident. Judith enjoyed traveling, walking, and being on or near the ocean. She loved to sing and all forms of music. She was a member of the Sacred Heart choir for over 30 years.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, Robert.
She is survived by her sons Robert E. Bailow III married to Dana Pero with grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth and Joshua Robert; Christopher M. Bailow with grandchildren Jack Wyatt, Marin Adelle, and Clovis Edward; and daughter, Jennifer Anne, married to Christopher Hill, with grandchildren Abigail Ella and Emaline Holcomb. Additionally, she is survived by three sisters, Deanna Bowman and her husband Frank, Karen Holcomb, and Candance Murchie and her husband, Gates. Judith is also survived by one brother, Stephen Holcomb; along with several nephews and a niece.
