Eva S. (Potter) McArthur Lee
SCARBOROUGH – Eva S. (Potter) McArthur Lee, passed away suddenly the evening of Oct. 10, 2023 at the age of 95.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y. on April 8, 1928, Eva was the daughter of Edith Irwin Potter and Frank Hamilton Potter. She was a proud graduate of Buffalo Seminary, a debutante at the age of 18 and studied towards a degree in Home Economics at Cornell University. While there, she met Charles H. McArthur, Jr. They were married in 1950, moved to Chicago, Ill. and went on to have three sons.
Eva later made homes in Westport, Conn. and, with her second husband, Charles Lee, Dayton, Ohio and Cape Elizabeth. She moved to Piper Shores in Scarborough in 2014.
Her curious mind and love of stories shaped her entire life. Eva was a world traveler, enjoyed tennis and bridge, was an avid golfer and member of Purpoodock Golf Club. She was passionate about theatre and the arts, Hugh Jackman, reading and served on the altar guild at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Cape Elizabeth. But she was most passionate about the care and nurturing of her family.
Eva is survived by three sons, Charles H. McArthur III (Hinesburg,Vt.), Bruce P. McArthur (Wilmington, N.C.) and Alexander I. McArthur (Warwick, R.I.), her daughters-in law Debra D. McArthur (Bruce) and Barbara L. McArthur (Alex); four grandchildren, William Chase McArthur (Alexandra Davis McArthur), Erik A. McArthur (Michelle McArthur), Bradford H. McArthur and Elizabeth P. McArthur; as well as great-granddaughter, Camilla Lee McArthur.
A memorial service and reception will be held on Sunday, Oct. 29 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 885 Shore Rd., Cape Elizabeth.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice.
