PORTLAND/CAPE ELIZABETH – Doris Genevieve Komulainen, 89, passed away Friday Sept. 29, 2023. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Feb. 11, 1934, a daughter of Frederick and Genevieve (Rodde’) Jacks.
As a young women, Doris started her working career at the Phelps Dodge Corporation in New York City. After marrying Toivo Komulainen and settling in New Jersey, they started a family and a watch and jewelry business. She became a partner in the jewelry store, and in addition to keeping the books and serving the customers, she quickly learned jewelry repair. Later in life she continued her career in retail sales and management for LaBelle’s, Jordan Marsh, Macy’s and Ross Simons, retiring from retail in 2001. A dedicated wife, mother, friend and businesswomen, she enjoyed holidays, family get togethers and quiet time taking walks along the Maine coast.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, Toivo Komulainen in 2010; and her sister, Barbara Jacks.
She is survived by her sons Wayne Komulainen, Craig Komulainen and his wife Julia Cunningham, a daughter, Doreen Komulainen; and a grandson, Kaimana Komulainen.
Graveside services for family and close friends will be held Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in the Finnish Cemetery, West Paris.
Arrangements are being handled by Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home, Portland.
