HAMPDEN – The family of Sandra Jean (Root) Gemmel is profoundly saddened to announce that Sandy died unexpectedly on Aug. 24, 2023.

Sandy was a beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, devoted member of Hampden Congregational Church, gifted singer and musician, and die-hard Red Sox fan.

Sandy is survived by her children and their spouses, Susan (Gemmel) Howe, Neill Gemmel and wife Ellie Falby, and Anne (Gemmel) Batchelder and husband Dana; as well as grandchildren Julia, Charlie and Millie Batchelder and Lucia and Cora Falby.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 15 at the University of Maine Buchanan Alumni House in Orono starting at 2 p.m.
