John Alton Lewis

PORTLAND – John Alton Lewis, 90, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

The son of William and Muriel (Seekins) Lewis, he was born on Dec. 30, 1932 in Portland. He grew up in Portland and attended Portland schools.

He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged he lived in California for a while where he met and married Sue Ann Williams. Shortly after they were married they moved to Maine, where John worked for the Post Office in Portland. John was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed playing cards especially poker. He also love reading in his free time.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sue.

He is survived by his daughter, Patty and her husband Mike of Portland; his grandchildren, Michelle Owen (Shawn), and Scott Duquette (Maryjane); and his great-grandchildren, Justice Duquette, Riley Owen, Chloe Owen, Anthony Duquette, Lydia Duquette, and Isabella Sanchez.

Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 10-11 a.m. at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Portland.
