SCARBOROUGH – Shirley Ann Bowman passed away peacefully on Sept. 7, 2023 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. She was born in Sanford on July 27, 1936, the daughter of Angelina and Winfred McNeil. She attended schools in Sanford, Bingham and graduated from Hartland Academy.
Shirley was a home maker and also worked as an administrative assistant for Community Health Services in Scarborough and Southern Maine Medical Center. She lived in Maine all her life and spent many winters in Ft Myers, Fla. She enjoyed traveling, reading, spending time with her family and friends and a good Manhattan during happy hour.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Angelina and Winfred McNeil; and her uncles Burton and Leslie McNeil.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Arnold Bowman; two daughters, Julie Lemieux of Old Orchard Beach and Lisa Plummer and her husband Michael of Naples; four grandchildren, Jennifer Cowan of Everett, Mass., Jeffrey Cowan of Old Orchard Beach, Danielle Bushey of Gorham, and Wyatt Plummer of Naples. She also had four great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Ricker and wife Elsa of Arizona, Thomas McNeil and his wife Sandy of Pittsfield; and a nephew, John McNeil and wife Sarah of Waldoboro.
In honoring Shirley’s wishes, there will be no services and the burial will be private.
