Lana Djuranovic, a rising senior at Scarborough High School, was named Friday as Maine’s 2022-23 Gatorade girls’ soccer Player of the Year.
Djuranovic, a midfielder, scored 28 goals and added five assists last fall, helping the Red Storm go 18-0 and win their first Class A state title in a decade. In the state game, Scarborough and Brunswick were scoreless into the second overtime, when Djuranovic soared and headed home Ali Mokriski’s corner kick to end it. Djuranovic, who was chosen Scarborough’s Fall Athlete of the Year by The Forecaster, was also named to the SMAA all-star team and was selected as an All-American.
Djuranovic, who has scored 46 goals and added 18 assists in her career, is also a peer leader in Scarborough’s Sources of Strength club, a youth suicide prevention project. She has also volunteered locally as a youth soccer coach. Djuranovic has maintained an A average in the classroom. She has made a verbal commitment to play soccer on scholarship at the University of Miami (Florida).
