Nancy Smith Junkins

KITTERY – Nancy Ellen Hosking Smith Junkins, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday June 19, 2023 at Durgin Pines in Kittery She was born Dec. 23, 1927 in Buffalo, N.Y. to Homer L. and Ruth S. Hosking.

She graduated from Scarsdale High School in Scarsdale, N.Y. and attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Nancy met her husband, Roderick E. Smith, after WWII and they married in 1948. They lived in New Haven, Conn., Charlottesville, Va., NYC and settled in Yarmouth Port, Mass. where they raised their three children.

Nancy enjoyed gardening, sports, reading and being outdoors with friends and family. She was a Girl Scout Leader and Boy Scout Den Mother. She was active in her local church, Garden Club and loved the family cats and dogs. She had a generous spirit and a loving smile for all who met her. Nancy was a lifelong member of the DAR and Mayflower Society. She and her husband Rod, retired to Maine in the 1980’s where they spent summers and wintered in Florida.

Nancy is survived by her children, Christopher E. Smith of Farmington N.H., Peter L. (Sarah) Smith of Newmarket, N.H., Nancy S. Smith of Brookline, Mass.; granddaughter Isabella H. Smith-Davenport of Dover N.H.; sister Susan Payzant of Falmouth, Maine and brother Robert Hosking of Davenport, Wash. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and her second husband, Alan D. Junkins of Bradenton, Fla. Her first husband, Rod, passed away in 1998.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Exeter Cemetery, Exeter N.H.
