The Maine Osteopathic Association recently honored Dr. Stephanie Collins, D.O., of South Portland with the 2023 Louis Hanson D.O. Physician of the Year Award.
The award is named in memory of the renowned Hanson of the osteopathic community. The award is given to an osteopathic physician who “demonstrated a high quality of practice, a compassionate interest in patients, and a commitment to their community in the past year,” according to the Maine Osteopathic Association.
Collins is a graduate of Brown University and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her Family Practice Residency at Maine-Dartmouth Family Practice. She taught students both there and at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.
She has practiced family medicine since 2001, with a focus in osteopathic manipulation. She opened a practice in South Portland in 2013, Maine Osteopathic Medicine.
Collins was awarded as part of the Maine Osteopathic Association’s 112th annual convention, held in Rockport in early June. Collins was presented with the award at the annual awards luncheon held in conjunction with the convention.
Collins has also served with the Maine Osteopathic Association’s board of directors from 2013 to 2022, and as the chair of the association’s Medical Economics Committee.
