North Yarmouth residents voted to fill seats on the Select Board, Budget Committee and School Administrative District 51 Board of Directors on Tuesday.
Four candidates sought two open seats on the Select Board: Katherine “Kit” Murray Maloney, current chair of the Economic Development and Sustainability Committee; Karl Cyr, a longtime Mainer and frequent town volunteer; David Reed, a former Select Board member; and Paul Whitmarsh, a retired commander in the Navy Reserve. Maloney and Cyr prevailed, earning 631 votes, or 26.7%, and 612 votes, or 26%, respectively.
Two open seats on the Budget Committee were contested by incumbent John K. Fulton and newcomers Richard Parenteau, an accountant, and Jeffrey M. Candura, development director for the Maine School of Science and Mathematics Foundation. Candura and Fulton won the seats, earning 559 votes, or 23.7%, and 584 votes, or 24.7%, respectively.
Timothy W. Valenti, who works as a school consultant, ran unopposed for a single open seat on the school board. He won 860 votes.
Residents also voted on the annual school budget validation referendum. The referendum passed with a 749 vote, or 63.5%, majority, and also was supported by voters in Cumberland.
