Richard Hanscom Mason

GORHAM – Richard “Dick” Mason passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the age of 91, following a brief illness. Dick was born in Levant, Maine on May 12, 1932, the son of Donald Mason and Florence Hanscom Mason, brother of Elwood, Grace, and Virgil.

Richard graduated from Hermon High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. He then graduated from Maine Vocational-Technical Institute as a machinist and worked for Portland Copper and later for Rich Tool and Die. Dick married Edith Cousins of South Portland in 1955. They began their married life in South Portland and later moved to Gorham where they raised their six children.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Cressey Road United Methodist Church, 81 Cressey Road, Gorham, Maine 04038, with a reception following. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Mercy Hospital telemetry floor and hospice for their compassion and excellent standard of care during Richard’s illness.
