A two-day blood drive last month in honor of Madison Charland, the niece of a Scarborough firefighter, resulted in 94 donations.
Three-year-old Madison was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in March 2021. After numerous rounds of chemotherapy and blood and platelet transfusions, Madison is now cancer free. The Scarborough Fire Department has held a half-dozen blood drives in her honor. During the most recent drive, Madison made a special appearance and helped check in donors.
The next blood drive in honor of Madison will be held on Sept. 8. To sign up or find other blood drives in your area, go to redcrossblood.org, navigate to the ‘Find a Drive’ page, and type in your ZIP code.
