Meserve

Cynthia Meserve of Buxton is facing Paul Leach II in the June 13 election for a three-year term on the SAD 6 Board of Directors.

The incumbent, Lindsey Atkinson, chose not to seek reelection.

Meserve, a consultant, is a former member of the school board and chairperson of its negotiations committee.

Leach did not respond to requests for comments about his campaign before the American Journal deadline.

Unity is the top challenge the Bonny Eagle district faces, Meserve said.

“In my opinion, we need to come together as one,” she said, and that can start with better communication.

“There should be discussions on how to improve communication in each school to overcome any misconceptions,” Meserve said.

Teachers and parents are “in this together” with the students’ best interests in mind, she said, and the administration should be involved to listen and take part.

“Sometimes the best option isn’t defense, it is an offense to bring things together. Nobody wins when everyone is right before a conversation begins,” she said.

Meserve has been active in the community as a youth softball coach, and for several years was on the board of a foster care agency.

The school district includes Buxton, Frye Island, Hollis, Limington and Standish.

Also on the local ballot June 13 is a contested race for a three-year term on the planning board. Incumbent Scott Warchol is facing challenger Roger Tracy.

Unopposed select board incumbents David Field Jr. and Francis Pulsoni, current chairperson, are seeking reelection.

Also running unopposed for three-year posts are John Myers for town clerk and Richard Fitzgerald for Budget Committee.

Luke Plummer seeks reelection to a two-year term on the Budget Committee.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 13 at Buxton Town Hall, 185 Portland Road.
