I am writing in response to a letter in the April 30 Sunday Telegram headlined “Wishing I could undo my decision to have abortion.”

While I appreciate the openness and honesty of the writer’s comments about regretting her decision to have an abortion at age 17, I feel I must remind the writer that it was her decision – she had a choice. In advocating for our Maine lawmakers not to pass L.D. 1619, a bill that would ensure that Maine women retain the right to have a choice in determining their futures, the writer is attempting to deny other women the choice that she freely had.

I am sorry that she regrets her decision, but she should not be advocating that the same choice be taken away from other women and handed over to groups of lawmakers who are responding to the dictates of a political party.
