Some seats in the upcoming June elections have generated considerable interest – with five people taking out nomination papers for two Arundel openings on the Regional School Unit 21 school board.

Other area races in Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel have so far drawn modest interest or, in one case,  none at all as of Monday afternoon.

In Kennebunk, completed nomination papers are due in the town clerk’s office at town hall by 4 p.m., Friday, April 14.

In Kennebunkport, the deadline to return papers into the town clerk at the municipal office, 6 Elm St. is also 4:30 p.m., April 14.

In Arundel, the deadline is 5:30 p.m., Thursday April 13. The municipal office at 257 Limerick Road is closed on Fridays.

In Kennebunk, incumbent William Ward has taken out papers for a three-year select board term, but as of 3 p.m. Monday, April 3, no one had done so for a second available three-year term currently held by incumbent Sally Carpenter.

Two people have taken out nomination papers for two, three-year Kennebunk RSU 21 board terms, Leah Bares and Harry Smith, said Town Clerk Merton Brown. Incumbents are Art LeBlanc and Dawn Therrien.

Incumbent Robert Emmons has pulled papers for a three-year term as trustee of the Kennebunk, Kennebunkport & Wells Water District, as has June Huston.

Robert Brady has taken out papers for a three-year term as Kennebunk Sewer District trustee.

Incumbent Beverly Freudenreich’s nomination papers have been returned and certified, earning her a spot on the ballot for a five-year term as a Kennebunk Light and Power District trustee.

In Kennebunkport, Diane Zamos and George Bentley pulled papers for a three-year term on the board of selectmen, said Town Clerk Tracey O’Roak. The incumbent is Ed Hutchins.

No one in Kennebunkport had taken out nomination papers for a three-year term on the RSU 21 Board of Directors as of Monday afternoon. Incumbent is Louis Braxton, Jr.

In Arundel, incumbent Thomas Danylik has pulled papers for a three-year select board term, said Town Clerk Rachel Bull.

In all, five people have taken out papers for two Arundel seats on the RSU 21 board where there is one three-year term available, currently held by Ken Levesque. A  partial, one-year term has emerged with the recent resignation of Ryan McQueen.

Charles Bassett and Rodney Sparkowich have each taken out papers for a three-year term. Also taking out papers for RSU 21 in Arundel were Ariel Taschereau, Britney Gerth and Kirstin Shapiro.

People looking to run but have not yet begun the process must check in with the town clerk in their respective communities, obtain nomination papers,  secure signatures of a minimum of 25 and a maximum of 100 signatures of people registered to vote in the town in which they are looking to be elected, and return them by the deadline.
