A New Hampshire man was sentenced Monday to more than 14 years in prison for his role in a violent home invasion in York more than three years ago.
Chief U.S. District Judge Jon D. Levy sentenced 34-year-old Jason Candelario of Manchester, New Hampshire, to 14 years and seven months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine said in a release. Candelario was also ordered to pay $180,277 in restitution to the victims of the home invasion.
Candelario’s sentencing in U.S. District Court in Portland came after he pled guilty in November to conspiracy to commit robbery, interference with commerce by violence, and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to court records, Candelario and three other individuals met in Hooksett, New Hampshire, in August 2019, where they planned to steal marijuana and marijuana sales proceeds from the resident of a home in York. They traveled to the home where Candelario and one of his associates, armed with handguns and wearing masks, waited in the woods for the resident to return.
When the resident arrived with two other individuals, the resident and one of the armed men had a violent altercation and both ended up on the ground. A firearm discharged, and a bullet struck the resident in his lower abdomen. Candelario and the others fled.
The home invasion was investigated by the FBI, the York Police Department and the York County Sheriff’s Office.
