The musicians in klezmer band Mamaliga live in both Boston and Brooklyn, New York, but they’ll all be in Maine on Friday. You can expect to be uplifted and mesmerized as they take you on an emotional journey with their traditional and original Yiddish tunes expertly arranged and played by two fiddlers, a cellist and an accordion player. The debut album “Dos Gildn Bletl,” released in 2021, is home to catchy tunes like “Fintster Un Farshtoybt” and “Der Popugay.”

Portland Symphony Orchestra, led by music director Eckart Preu and featuring harpist Ina Zdorovetchi, presents a pair of performances that will highlight the work of three living Mexican composers. Enrico Chapela and Ana Lara will be there in person, and the third is Arturo Marquez. The concert includes Chapela’s “Rotor,” which is an homage to his time in a death metal band. You’ll also hear Marquez’s Máscaras Concerto for Harp & Orchestra and Lara’s Angeles de Llama y Hielo (Angels of Fire and Ice). Both shows will be recorded and will result in the PSO’s first-ever album, to come out at the beginning of next year. They’ll also be filmed, and shows will be released digitally on April 12.

Virginia-based Appalachian string band The Steel Wheels is bringing is Americana tunes to Portland for a weeknight performance. Its latest albums are “Everyone A Song, Volumes 1 and 2,” and the band is currently working on new material. For several summers, The Steel Wheels have hosted the Red Wing Roots Music Festival in the Shenandoah Valley. Get a toe-tappin’ taste of it on Tuesday.
