LEWISTON — Knives were confiscated from two elementary students Tuesday, according to a letter from Superintendent Jake Langlais.

The incidents, which occurred at Connors and McMahon elementary schools, were not connected, he said.

“Reports of a student being in possession of a knife were raised at each school,” Langlais wrote. “Upon receiving this information, Administration responded to the location of the student during the dismissal time frame, searches were conducted, and a knife was found.”

Students in the area were safe and released to their parents. No altercations took place.

Langlais said school staff will continue to investigate the incidents, but they are not currently aware of any threats. The students in possession of the knives will remain home with their parents while the investigations are carried out.

Langlais asked parents to remind their children that weapons are not allowed in any school spaces, including in school or on the bus.

“If you see something — say something,” he wrote. “That is how we were made aware in these two situations. When reports are received we are able to respond.  Thank you to those who helped keep our school safe by reporting.”
