University of Maine guard Anne Simon will return for a fifth season with Black Bears women’s basketball team, the school announced on Tuesday.
Simon, who was named the America East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year as a junior during the 2021-2022 season, will take advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted to athletes because of the impact of COVID-19 on the 2020-2021 season.
“I am so thankful for my teammates and coaches for being my family away from home,” Simon said in a press release from the school. “I appreciate all the support and love I have received from our fans during these four years. But we are not done yet. I’m coming back for another year.”
Simon played just 14 of Maine’s 30 games during the 2022-23 season, battling an ankle injury. She returned late in the season and averaged 13.6 points and 4.1 rebounds for UMaine, which went 16-14 and lost in the semifinals of the America East tournament.
Simon, of Sandweiler, Luxembourg, is 11th on Maine’s all-time scoring list with 1,357 points.
