A Dorchester, Massachusetts, man faces charges of felony drug possession after he started hallucinating alongside the Saco River and emergency workers were called to help.
Zachary Fenton, 19, was part of a canoeing party that was camping just below Canal Bridge in Fryeburg on Saturday, police said.
“Fenton told officers he was having a bad trip and thought his hands were melting,” said Fryeburg Police Chief Joshua Potvin.
Police seized more than four grams of crystal methamphetamine, half a gram of cocaine and $200.
Fenton was taken to Bridgton Hospital for treatment and is scheduled to appear in Bridgton District Court on Oct. 13.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
