A flash flood warning has been issued for Androscoggin County, including the cities of Auburn and Lewiston, with thunderstorms expected that could produce up to 4 inches of rain an hour.

The National Weather Service office in Gray said the warning will remain in effect until 9:45 p.m.

Auburn reported 1.9 inches of rain in 45 minutes earlier Wednesday evening. Several roads in Lewiston are flooded, the weather service said.

“Turn around, don’t drown,” was a message posted on the agency’s Facebook page.

Severe thunderstorm warnings have also been issued for Kennebec, Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties.
