ERIE, Pa. — Recently acquired Michael Fullmer combined with two relievers to limit the Portland Sea Dogs to four hits, and the Erie SeaWolves recorded their first shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park.

Fullmer, who was acquired by the Detroit Tigers from the New York Mets in a trade last week that sent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes to New York, struck out six and walked two. He gave up two hits over 6 2/3 innings in his Erie debut.

The SeaWolves were also boosted by another recent acquisition, JaCoby Jones, who came over from the Pirates’ organization in a trade that sent reliever Joakim Soria to Pittsburgh.

In the fourth inning, Jones singled, stole second base and scored on a two-out single by James Robbins on a soft liner to left to put Erie (43-65) ahead.

Jones walked in the sixth and stole second before advancing to a third on a throwing error by Portland starting pitcher Mike McCarthy. He scored the SeaWolves’ second run on another two-out single by Robbins.

McCarthy gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits and one walk with one strikeout in seven innings, matching a career high for longest appearance.

Wynton Bernard led off the bottom of the eighth with a double and pushed the Erie lead to 3-0 when he scored on a sacrifice fly by Jones.

Sam Travis and Henry Ramos each hit a double for the Sea Dogs (40-70).

Carlos Asuaje and Tim Roberson added a single apiece to account for Portland’s four hits.

Travis has reached base in 35 of the 37 games he has started with the Sea Dogs.

Roberson extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

Portland Manager Billy McMillon was ejected from the game in the sixth when a pitch that may have hit Manuel Margot was ruled a foul ball.
