SCARBOROUGH – Barbara Ann (Eilers) Bongiovanni, born Feb. 22, 1954, of Scarborough, died suddenly, Oct. 31, 2022, of cardiovascular disease in Gray, at the home of friends. She was the daughter of Francis and Margaret (Adams) Eilers.
As a child, she was an avid reader, and began a life-long hobby of raising birds including Pip, her first parakeet.
Barbara was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) and Adirondack Community College (Queensbury, N.Y.); and attended SUNY Potsdam (Potsdam, N.Y.) where she met her future husband, Bob Bongiovanni. Barb and Bob moved to Maine in the late 1970s, and settled in Portland, where they were married on June 30, 1980. They began married life operating own house-cleaning business, and became involved in several churches. Barbara also worked at St. Elizabeth’s hospital, and later as a home health aide for COR Health of Portland. She also was the author of four mystery books.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years; her parents; and sister Janet (d.1952).
She is survived by sisters Kathryn Van Flue (Robert) of Scotia, N.Y., and Pamela Lendi (Jay) of Commerce City, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no services at this time, but may be scheduled in the spring.
