WINTHROP — A Winthrop man was killed Sunday night after his pickup truck veered off Memorial Drive and rolled over several times, police said.
Alexander Meader, 30, died at the scene of the crash, just north of the intersection of Bearce Road and Memorial Drive, at about 8:50 p.m., according to Chief Ryan Frost of the Winthrop Police Department.
Meader was driving and the only occupant in the 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck.
He was traveling northbound on Memorial Drive when he left the road and hit an embankment, causing the pickup truck to roll several times, Frost said. The vehicle ended up on its roof in the middle of Memorial Drive.
The cause of the crash was still under investigation Monday.
Frost said witnesses traveling southbound saw the crash and the pickup truck roll over toward them.
Frost said it did not appear Meader was wearing a seat belt.
Firefighters used extrication tools to remove Meader from the pickup truck.
Winthrop police, fire and ambulance crews responded to the crash, as did Pro Tow Auto Transport.
