I concur with Herb Fox: All politics and economics are global (Letter to the editor, Oct. 7). Also, climate change is the most important item. We can pass all the social legislation we want, but if we can’t reverse climate change, all the social activism will probably be immaterial in 50 years because there won’t be enough of us or habitable Earth left to enjoy them.

We need a World War II-level effort, including rationing, and rigidly enforced travel restrictions and meaningful outreach to our fellow international citizens to encourage the same effort planet-wide.
