Christina Franco
PORTLAND – Christina Franco, 88, of Dorothy Street passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, in the comfort of her home and in the presence of her family, only two days before her 89th birthday.
Christina was born in Portland, Maine, on Oct. 12, 1933, the youngest child of the late Fred and Delia Manchester. She grew up on Pleasant Street and attended Staples Grammar School and graduated from Portland High School in the class of 1951.
Immediately out of school, Christina went to work for Harris Oil Company for many years before starting a career working for USF&G Insurance Company as the assistant to the claims manager. After retirement she worked at the Italian Heritage Center and for Cheverus High School.
Following her retirement, Christina and Luke traveled extensively with family and friends to Italy, Lourdes France, religious pilgrimages with Fr. Diorio, six trips to Ireland to visit with her cousins and multiple trips to Arizona to visit with her son Kevin.
Christina was most proud of her family and, if asked, would tell you that her greatest achievement was raising her three sons. She and Luke were overjoyed with the birth of her twin grandchildren Nicholas and Michaela. She and Luke were the only babysitter the twins ever knew.
Christina’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses on the Cardiac Floor and ICU at Maine Medical Center for their compassionate care.
Christina was predeceased by her husband, Luke Franco in 2002; two sisters, Barbara McShane and Maureen Frisco; a brother Vincent Manchester.
She is survived by her three sons, Mark and his wife Tammy Franco of Cumberland Foreside, Kevin Franco of Arizona, and Michael Franco of Parsonsfield; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Michaela Franco; several nieces and nephews including her beloved nieces, Daebbie Nevers, Kim Drake, Dawn and Diane Smith; brother-in-law, Vincent Franco and his wife Gingee of Bangor.
