This July, I was extremely disappointed when Victor Chau was the only councilor to vote no on the Human Rights Proclamation supporting women’s rights. While Chau decided to stand with the “other side,” those who do not want women to have rights, I decided to support a candidate who better represents my community. This November, I am voting for Jess Moninski because:She will stand up for women’s rights, unequivocally. She will work diligently to see our schools, teachers and children thrive. She will be thoughtful about city planning and economic development. She will work collaboratively to address the housing crisis.Jess Moninski brings an approach that is centered on equity and an understanding of the bigger picture. She understands policy, education, the law, and civil rights, and she is committed to a better Westbrook. I’m committed to seeing Jess get elected this November.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
