MEXICO — Police from Mexico and Rumford shot a man Wednesday afternoon while responding to a disturbance.
Rumford police issued a press release Wednesday. They did not describe the nature of the disturbance or identify the man who was shot.
“At approximately 3:41 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon,” according to the release, “Mexico and Rumford Police, along with Oxford County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an incident at the Sunvalley Circle Apartment complex at 23 Sunvalley Circle in Mexico. Shots were fired by two officers and an adult male was transported to the Rumford Hospital by MedCare Ambulance personnel with gunshot wounds. The male was later transferred by LifeFlight helicopter to the Central Maine Medical Center to receive further treatment and is expected to survive. The identity of the subject involved is not being released at this time until family members can be notified.”
Two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, police said, pending an investigation by the Attorney General’s Office. Those officers are Mexico police Lt. Derek MacDonald and Rumford police Officer Bradley Gallant.
Investigators from the AG’s office and and Maine State Police detectives are handling the investigation, as is standard procedure in Maine for any police-involved shootings.
