William F. Sowa

OGUNQUIT – William F. Sowa, 81, passed away on Tuesday August 23, 2022. Bill was born in Decatur, Ill. on Nov. 15, 1940, a son of the late Gustav and Hattie (Kayhs) Sowa.

Following several years in the United States Marine Corp, he attended the University of Illinois and received a degree in civil engineering. He was married to Judith E. Roeske from Feb. 9, 1965 to her passing in April 2022.

Bill worked his entire professional career (1967-2002) for Turner Construction Company with major projects in Chicago, Peoria, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Pittsburg, Boston, and Houston.

Since 2004, he had lived an active life in Ogunquit, Maine with many close friends throughout the community and a love of the natural beauty of Maine which he had thoroughly explored with Judy. He served on the Ogunquit Planning Board from 2006-10.

Bill leaves two sons, David Sowa, his wife Joanne Sowa, and their children Tucker, Joshua, and Haley Grace; Mark Sowa, wife Marta Verhoff, and their children Frederick, Ruth Anne, Henry, Therese, and Peter; brother Ronald Sowa M.D., his wife Mary Louise Sowa, sons Erik, Kurt, and Karl; sister-in-law Julie Sowa, her daughters (and their children) Dawn, Leslie, Allison, and Sara.

A funeral home service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Rd., York, Maine, with a period of visitation from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
