Julia Ann (Clarke) Small

RAYMOND – Julia Ann (Clarke) Small, 74, passed away peacefully on Aug. 26, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Portland on Oct. 7, 1947, the daughter of Vernon and Gloria (MacCormack) Clarke.

Julia graduated in 1965 from Deering High School. She started work at F.W. Woolworth on Congress Street until she married, at which time she moved to Raymond to raise three wonderful children.

She returned to school starting her 30-year career in the medical field. She attended Andover College where she graduated with an associate’s degree in medical assisting, while working at the Osteopathic Hospital of Maine, full time, in several positions, including CNA and unit secretary.

She then left to pursue her goal of working in a physician’s office where she worked for Dr. John Kazilionis, D.O. of South Portland, Dr. John Brewer, D.O., of Gorham, Dr. Russell Remalia, D.O. of Standish, as well as per diem for area hospitals and Quick Care centers.

She retired to return home and raise her granddaughter, Mikayla, for the next five years, as well as her volunteer work with Raymond Fire Department and the RFD Ladies Auxiliary, Girl Scout leader, starting with Brownies and taking that troop all the way to Senior Girl Scouts. She taught Sunday school at Raymond Village Church as well as worked with the Meals on Wheels in Windham.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Clifford Small; daughter, Heather Small and her husband, Larry Peters of Gray, sons Eric Small of Naples, and Christopher Small and his wife, Sarah, of Limington; granddaughters Neisha, Sasha, and Mikayla, and a grandson, Jacob; brothers Kenneth Clarke and his wife, Anne, of Standish, Bryan Clarke and his wife, Pat, of Tuston, Calif., sister, Tammy Pelletier of Northfield, Mass.; as well as many nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
