Sheryl Marie White
PORTLAND – Sheryl Marie White, 75, passed on Aug. 19, 2022 at the Maine Medical Center with her adoring children by her side. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2020, and gallantly fought three rounds of the unforgiving disease until her death.
Sheryl was born in Portland and resided in the North Deering area. Sheryl was a strong individual with a deep commitment to family. Her life centered around her children and grandchildren, which gave her great joy in life. Her quirky and fun spirit brought countless laughs and memories to her children and grandchildren including water balloon fights, marshmallow pipe contests, kickball and basketball games in the yard and endless Uno challenges.
Sheryl was a very spiritual individual with a strong faith. She worked as a secretary at the Payson Park Evangelical Free Church for the majority of her life until retirement, where she taught Sunday School and was an integral part of the church community. She then attended the Eastpoint Christian Church until her passing.
Sheryl was predeceased by her mother, Nina Gilbert, father, William Gack; and brother, Bill Gack.
She is survived by her sisters Cynde Tripaldi, Susan Gilbert and Jayne Chickola; her children Jim Lacourse and his wife, Tracy Lacourse, Sherrin Vail and her husband, Chris Vail, daughter, Jessica Corrigan, son, Joshua White and his wife, Katie White, and daughter, Rita George; grandchildren Cameron and Jamie Lacourse, Seamus and Ivy Corrigan, Finnegan Vail, Julian and Charlie White and Kimberly Basinger and Emily Roux; great-grandchildren Dylan and Jullian Mitchell; countless other family, and her infamous, yellow VW “Tweety” Bug.
Services to honor and celebrate Sheryl’s life will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland.
