Free two-day community concert event
Meetinghouse Arts will present a two-day music event this weekend at two venues.
A free community concert is planned from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Park, at 19 Bow St. The performance line-up will include Erica Brown and Darlin’ Corey, Arcadia Band, Attractive Nuisance, and the Duane Edwards Trio.
From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, the Portland Trumpet Ensemble will take to the stage at Meetinghouse Arts, at 40 Main St. Tickets are $18 and children 16 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at eventbrite.com/o/meetinghouse-arts-33657308415.

Police departments to throw awareness event
The Brunswick Police Department will host its 2nd annual National Night Out for the community from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Brunswick Recreation Center at 220 Neptune Dr.
The event will feature a variety of fun and educational exhibits, obstacle courses, music, a bounce house, kids’ table, free food and swag, plus a chance to dunk Chief Scott Stewart in the dunk tank. Auburn’s event will be from 5:30 p.m. until dusk at Festival Plaza and Main Street, featuring food, fun, live music, and a family-friendly block party. There will be police, fire, and public works equipment on display, and many local businesses and community partners will be on hand. There will be games and activities for kids, including a bounce house, an inflatable obstacle course, face painting, balloons, and lots of giveaways.
Live music will be performed by the L-A Harley Band. Kids will have the chance to shoot hoops with local basketball legend and international professional basketball star Troy Barnies. The APD will also set up an impaired driving obstacle course and a “seatbelt convincer,” to help encourage adults to drive sober and seat belted.

Get tickets for 1860s-style baseball game
The Brick Store Museum will host a vintage baseball game between the Dirigo Base Ball Club of Maine vs. Mudville (of Holliston, Mass.) at noon Saturday at Parsons Field.
The game will feature vintage sports costumes worn by players be played by 1860s rules (which includes no mitts). Participants will receive the rules of play in order to follow along. Attendees are encouraged to bring camp chairs and picnic blankets to enjoy the game. A concession stand will be on site with hot dogs and other snacks. Tickets are $5 per person and free for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased at the door, online at brickstoremuseum.org/calendar, or at the museum. Parking is available downtown with a short walk to the park.

Astronomy organization welcome public to BBQ
The Astronomical Society of Northern New England (ASNNE) will hold a special monthly meeting Friday evening at the Talmage Observatory at Starfield, off Route 35.
This barbecue and potluck begins at 5 p.m. and is open to ASNNE members and the public. Grills will be provided but guests are responsible for bringing their own food. A general ASSNE meeting will begin at about 6:30 p.m. Mark Hamilton will head a presentation detailing astrophotography.
The August meeting agenda includes Bernie Reim’s “What’s Up for the Month” and the ever-popular “Astro Shorts” where attendees and members share questions, activities, news and observations.
In this event of rain or cloud cover, a regular meeting will at 7:30 p.m. at the New School at 38 York St., Kennebunk, with no cook-out.

Enjoy disco, rock, country at concert
The Wells Harbor Concert Series will feature a free performance by the Maine rock band The Party Starters at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Hope Hobbs Gazebo at Wells Harbor Community Park, at 331 Harbor Road.
This four-member band plays music for all ages including disco, country, soul and rock ‘n’ roll hits from the 1950s to present.
There is plenty of free parking and some park bench-type seating. Attendees may bring their own blanket, folding chair and a picnic to share.

Library updates weekly events offering
Wells Public Library will host the following family and children’s events this week at 1434 Post Road:
• A Family Cooking Night will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on Facebook Live. Professional pastry chef Kristen Lawson of A Café and Bakery will lead viewers in a cupcake baking demonstration. Then at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, there will be a Cupcake Challenge, inviting children of all ages to decorate a cupcake based on a mystery theme to be revealed at the event. Prizes will be awarded in different categories, but everyone wins with a cupcake to eat at the end! All ingredients provided.
• Mother Goose Storytime is 10:30 a.m. Monday for children ages 0-24 months and their caregivers to engage in lap activities, rhymes, songs, and fingerplays.
These events are free and sponsored by the Friends of the Wells Public Library.

Lobster festival parade returns
The Maine Lobster Festival Big Parade returns at 10 a.m. Saturday on Main Street, as part of the 5-day Maine Lobster Festival that runs from Wednesday through Sunday.
The 2022 Big Parade theme is “We Are All Champions,” and this year’s grand marshals are winning high school sports teams. Local lobstering legend Virginia Oliver – AKA The Lobster Lady – who is 102, was chosen to be the 2020 Grand Marshal. Due to COVID-19, the festival was unable to hold that parade but is excited to welcome her this year.
The Maine Cabin Masters return and will be greeting fans at Mildred Merrill Park afterward.

Get your classical fix with three concerts
Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School will launch the first of three August concerts at 5 p.m. Wednesday, with Envision Chamber Music Workshop faculty members performing the free concert at the Rockport Opera House. The program includes music by Piazzolla, Marquez, Mozart and more and features violinists Sophie and Josie Davis, violist Colin Wheatley, cellists Julia Henderson and Nora Willauer, bassist Nate Martin and pianist Margarita Rovenskaya.
Next, pianist and 2022 Andrew Wolf Award recipient Michelle Cann will perform alongside the Aeolus Quartet at at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, also at the Rockport Opera House. Their program includes music by Beethoven and Brahms. This ensemble also will perform a second concert together at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Union Hall in Rockport, featuring music by Florence Price, Amy Beach and more.
