The South Portland City Council will appoint two members of the School Board to fill vacancies.
Mike Faulkingham resigned last week as the District 2 representative on the School Board, citing the time commitment of a new job and family matters that limit his ability to serve on the board.
Andrea Levinsky resigned from her District 4 seat this week. She no longer lives in the district because her apartment building was sold and she could no longer afford to live there, according to School Board Chairperson Elyse Tipton.
Both appointees will serve on the board until the November election. The District 2 term was set to expire in November, and the District 4 seat, which would have been up for election in 2024, be now be voted on in November as well.
Applications for the two seats will be available soon. After an interview process, the council will make the appointments.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
