Clayton’s Cafe in Yarmouth is now under new ownership after almost three decades under the same proprietors.
The new owners, who were not identified, don’t plan to change anything, other than some “much-needed upgrades,” according to a letter former longtime owners Martha and Dave Clayton posted on their website and on social media.
The Claytons are retiring after owning the popular Route 1 restaurant for about 27 years. In the letter, they say they plan on traveling and spending more time with their grandchildren.
Response from the community has been bittersweet, with customers voicing their support and happiness for the Claytons’ retirement on Facebook, while also saying they will miss seeing the Claytons at the cafe.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
