Being able to choose a walk on the beach or along rolling farmland is a big reason Julia and I love where we live. We cherish Scarborough’s special landscape and support the Scarborough Land Trust as much as we can.
We want to share a few of our favorite warm weather walks. Reminder: bird nesting season has begun. Some of these places do not allow dogs or call for leashes between April and October. Please be a good neighbor and check any other trail rules before you go.
BLUE POINT PRESERVE. This is the land trust’s newest property and its first acquisition on Scarborough Marsh. The trail is short, just over half a mile, and it has peaceful views of the marsh. The small parking lot is off Pine Point Rd. If the lot is full, or you want to walk further, strolling the sands of Pine Point Beach is a great choice.
PROUTS NECK. Prouts Neck is the jewel of Scarborough, in our opinion. The Cliff Walk can take you from Scarborough Beach, around the point, and then for an epic continuation, you can go over to Western and Ferry Beaches then back.
FULLER FARM PRESERVE. If you need a long walk, head inland to the Fuller Farm Preserve, with almost three miles of trails through woods and fields. Rest and listen to the peaceful sounds of the Nonesuch River on your way.
BROADTURN FARM is just down the road from Fuller Farm. Stop by for a short walking trail and to pick out organic produce and gorgeous flowers. Scarborough Land Trust plans to create additional trails on the 434 acre property in the coming years.
We love where we live and would love to talk to you about your plans to sell or buy, no matter what stage they are in. Call 207-838-1651 or send us an email at ranellogroup@gmail.com.
