Trevor Hustus of Hollis has ended his campaign for reelection to the SAD 6 Board of Directors because he has accepted a job in Washington, D.C.
Hustus, the school board’s recent chairperson, had been in a race with Kelley C. Heath for the seat with a Hollis residency requirement. The election is Tuesday, June 8.
“While I am saddened to be leaving MSAD 6, I have been given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to serve the people of the entire state in our nation’s capital,” Hustus wrote to the Bonny Eagle community.
Hustus said Tuesday he has accepted a job offer in the office of U.S. Sen. Susan Collins and will relocate to Washington, D.C.
Buxton, Standish and other voters in each of the SAD 6 towns will still see his name on the June 8 ballots, which were printed before his withdrawal from the race.
“Should Mr. Hustus be declared the winner of this school board seat, the municipal officers of the town of Hollis will be responsible to select an interim school board director to serve until the next annual election,” said Hedy Smith, SAD 6 executive secretary.
“It has been a great honor to serve on the board these past three years, including two as its chairman,” Hustus wrote.
Hustus is a graduate of Bonny Eagle High School and the University of Southern Maine.
