Gerald “Gerry” Dinsmore Brocher

ALFRED – Gerald “Gerry” Dinsmore Brocher, 79, of Alfred, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, in Southern Maine Health Care, Biddeford.

He was born, Dec. 7, 1941 in Windsor Mills, Quebec, Canada, to Elaine Vintinner and Carmi Gaylor. He was adopted to Edwin Brocher and Elsie (Dinsmore) Brocher, and was brought to the United States with a passport on Jan. 22, 1942 and was adopted on June 19, 1944. Gerry became a United States citizen at the age of 13 on March 8, 1955. He married Carole Lee (Emerson) Brocher of Websterville, Vt. at Green Hills Methodist Church in Fountain, Fla. on Oct. 7, 1960. The couple was married for 60 years.

Gerry enjoyed motorcycling, boating, antique car shows, NASCAR racing, bicycling, walking, sightseeing, movies and packing a picnic lunch for the family excursions. At 13, he worked at the Dairy and Bowling Alley in Newport Center, Vt., taking off milk can covers and setting up bowling pins.

In his teen years he picked Tung nuts in Florida, worked with lumber in Waterbury, Vt., Lash Furniture in Barre, Vt., Lake Morey Inn, Fairlee, Vt., A.P.W and Case Brothers, Brattleboro, Vt. He worked on road construction for many years and for many different companies, travelling all over the East Coast and New England. He retired after 32 years with Pizzagalli Construction. He loved and was good at operating equipment. He was a workaholic. After retirement he loved staying busy in the yard and spending Sundays with family.

He was predeceased by his son, Jerry Lee Brocher; father, Carmi Gaylor, mother, Elaine (Vintinner) Guertin, adopted parents Edwin and Elsie (Dinsmore) (Preston) Brocher; seven half-brothers, three half-sisters, and a sister-in-law.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Carole Lee (Emerson) Brocher of 60 years; son, Randy Alan, former daughter-in-law Carole Brocher, daughter, Amy Marie Brocher; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four half-sisters, three sisters-in-law; former daughter-in-law, Gail Lisa (Brocher) Nason; and lots of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Hope Memorial Chapel in Biddeford. Viewing and service celebrating the life of Gerry will be held on Friday, May 21 from 4 to 6 p.m., with a service beginning at 6 p.m. Burial will be at Brook Haven Cemetery, Orange, Vt.
