I will be voting for Hope Cahan on June 8. Ms. Cahan shares my values regarding the importance of community engagement, civil discourse and civic transparency. I have witnessed this directly during many meetings of the Community Development Committee that she currently chairs and which reviewed this year matters important to my neighborhood.
Ms. Cahan consistently ensured that the public had ample opportunity to speak; more important, she repeatedly demonstrated that the public was “being heard.” She was very open to considering new ideas; each proposal was fully studied, discussed with the attending public and debated within her committee in open forum.
Though some of our suggestions were not accepted, we were welcomed as active participants in the process and left meetings better informed and confident that the Community Development Committee could be counted on as an honest partner with Ms. Cahan at the helm.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
