Curbside bean supper
A bean supper hosted by Amvets Post 6, 1095 Lewiston Road, will be by curbside service only from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15. (The earlier time is the result of early birds showing up for the former 5 p.m. start time.) Patrons need not exit their vehicles.
Each meal includes a red hot dog, two types of homemade beans, coleslaw, American chop suey, biscuit, brown bread and a dessert for $8 per person.

Fiddlehead foraging
Take a 90-minute adventure on a hike to the banks of the Royal River at Pineland Farms. Forage for fiddleheads with retired Maine game warden Lt. Adam Gormely beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 12. With more than 35 years of experience in the Maine woods, he is sure to offer an informed narrative, creating insight into these flavorful ferns.
Learn where to discover fiddleheads and how to prepare them. Wear comfortable hiking boots and be prepared to hike at least 2 miles through flat and off-trail conditions.
Participants are to meet at Pineland’s Outdoor Center, 15 Farm View Drive (off Morse Road). The Outdoor Center is located beneath The Market. The fee is $45 per person, which includes a harvest bag, a quart of fresh-picked fiddleheads and a recommended recipe. Sign up at shop.pinelandfarms.org.
Available spots are limited to help conform to COVID-19 guidelines at Pineland Farms. Visitors are also required to wear face coverings. Social distancing is to be practiced at all times, keeping a minimum distance of 6 feet between household groups.
